Do’s and Dont’s

The do’s

  • You may use your blow dryer, flat iron and curling iron on your hair extensions.
  • You may safely assume that whatever is good for your natural hair is also good for your extensions.
  • Be sure to dry hair with your blow dryer without using any combs or brushes until hair is almost dry. This will avoid any extensions from being pulled out of your head.
  • Always use a product designed for thermal styling on the extension hair before proceeding with your flat or curling iron.
  • Hot rollers may be used but limit use to once a week. Anymore and you will run the risk of dehydrating the hair.
  • Be sure to use only shampoos designed for human hair extensions. A line of products are available through me.
  • Do tie your hair up at night. a loose braid or bun works well.
  • Stay in touch with me every 6 weeks or so.
  • Use only a natural bristle brush, these are available through me.
  • Be sure to spray extensions once a day with a light leave in conditioner and then proceed to brush out any tangles holding onto the base of the extensions.
  • Wash hair at least once a week!
  • Go ahead and use tanning beds - they don’t affect your bonds!
  • Be sure to book an appointment to remove and redo extensions within 3-4 months of original appointment.
  • Enjoy your new look!!!

The dont’s

  • Don’t wash your hair until 48 hours after the extensions have been installed.
  • No products with a high alcohol content should be used near your bonds.
  • No treatments of any kind should be done while you are wearing extensions. ie. hot oil or deep conditioning.
  • Tie hair up if your are entering a pool or the ocean - diving in may result in your extensions loosing and falling out! yikes!
  • If you are currently using any products on your hair or scalp that may have been prescribed by a doctor, please discuss it with me first - these may interfere with your extensions.
  • Don’t fiddle and play with your bonds!!! Doing so may damage your attachments!
  • Do not flat iron or apply excessive heat to the bond itself. Remember it was installed with heat.
  • Coloring or perming your own hair at this time is a no no. Consult myself or another hairstylist before altering your extensions in anyway.
  • Don’t let anyone tell you this is a waste of time or money!
